Alice’s woodland project

Alice Potter (7) lives locally in Bolsover Grove in Merstham. To make the environment surrounding her home a nicer place for the wildlife and thepeople, Alice came up with a beautiful plan for a woodland project.

Her plan was to create a small wood on the field in front of her house with trees, bushes, meadow flowers and a bench where people could sit and relax.

“I would really like a bug hotel and a log pile and bird feeders and bird boxes.” Alice explained. “Behind the bench I would like a willow arch just like the one opposite the fish and chip shop.”

With the support of her dad, Alice rallied up local residents and school friends for their support, everyone loved the idea and many people offered their help to build and maintain the garden.

In her letter to Raven, Alice explained how she wanted a nice place for people to meet and maybe have a barbeque or a party together, just like the one they had for the royal wedding. We thought this was a brilliant idea and were more than happy to support the project. We got in touch with our contractor, Burleys, to see if they could help us with Alice’s project. Burleys did a brilliant job and helped with the project free of charge providing the materials for the wooden bench.

“The planting day was a great success, we had 53 people helping out, including around 30 neighbours from the green and they have all volunteered to maintain the space.” said Vinny Potter (Alice’s dad).
