Safety advice –
Mobility scooters

Mobility scooters have become very popular and are readily available to hire or purchase, however before obtaining a scooter you need to consider your storage options.

We’ve recently noticed an increase in the number of electric mobility scooters being stored and charged in the communal hallways of blocks of flats. This can cause a number of issues.

There have been incidents where the batteries have caught fire. Scooters in communal hallways can cause an obstruction to other residents during an emergency evacuation and emergency services wishing to access the property. Power cables running from the owners flat to charge the scooter can become easily damaged or vandalised leading to an ignition source and a potential fire.

We appreciate the changing personal needs of our customers and that sometimes properties and lifestyle have to adapt to meet these needs and we are always happy to meet with customers and discuss what options are available.

Before buying a scooter please contact Raven to discuss where you plan to charge and store it. Where possible, we are happy to offer advice and look for options to provide a safe and workable site for your scooter. Unfortunately, if we find an unauthorised mobility scooter being charged in the communal area of a block of flats you may be asked to remove it while we consider a suitable alternative.
