Employment support – more to it than meets the eye
Here at Raven we run employment support programmes designed to help you secure new employment or training opportunities.
For some people it might just be quick tips and tricks to brush up on your CV and interview skills.
If you think these could help you, take a look on our website here - Support with skills for work
Others may benefit from a more hands on approach with one to one support from our dedicated teams.
Whether you want to begin work, or move on to a better paid job, we’re here to help and support you.
James’ story
James was referred to the employment support programme by his local job centre, having been unable to work for 18 months due to health issues. He was introduced to a Raven adviser, who helped him write his CV and worked with him to improve his interview skills.
James also joined our IT workshops, where he developed his computer skills and learned how to apply for jobs online.
With these new skills and his updated CV, James was soon getting job interviews. However, he found he was having to turn down work because the shift patterns didn’t fit in with local transport times. When his Raven adviser learned about this, they worked with the local job centre to get vouchers for James to buy a bike.
With the transport barriers resolved, James was able to start a new job as a kitchen assistant.
And it doesn’t end there for James - he’s continuing to work with our team to build on his skills and develop his career.
Mary’s story
Mary has been working in the hairdressing industry for many years. She loves her work, especially the interaction with clients and feels a real sense of fulfilment. Unfortunately, because of the rising costs of day to day living, she felt she needed to earn more money, and was worried she’d have to stop doing the job she loves.
Mary got in contact with our employment support team. She talked about her worries about work, what she liked and disliked and, most importantly, what her aspirations were. From these conversations it was clear that as well as loving being a hairdresser, Mary has a passion for supporting trainees and apprentices.
With the support of the employment team, Mary decided to enrol on a college course to get a teaching qualification. With this new qualification Mary will be able to increase her earnings by combining hairdressing and teaching.
She’s now enrolled at college and is enjoying her new course, while looking forward to the next steps of her exciting new work adventure.
Congratulations to both James and Mary on their new exciting roles – we look forward to hearing all about their future successes.
