Raven in the community
On Wednesday 28th September over 200 Raven colleagues picked up paint brushes, gardening tools, and turned on their crafting skills as we joined schemes, groups and schools around Surrey, taking part in projects to support our customers and local communities.
We sent 13 different teams of Raven staff to various locations – here are a few examples of what we got up to on the day.
Painting at ESDAS
A team of nine Raven volunteers spent the afternoon at East Surrey Domestic Abuse Service (ESDAS), where they painted rooms and spruced up the offices to make them a more welcoming environment. We’ve been supporting ESDAS throughout 2022 as Raven’s charity of the year.
Painting and gardening at Epsom Downs Primary School
Another Raven team was dispatched to Epsom Downs Primary School where they were busy gardening to prepare the beds for next year’s bulbs. As well as a spot of weeding, they prepared the herb garden ready for the children’s cookery lessons.
They also got to show off their more creative talents by painting the outdoor furniture.
Allotment tidy up
A green figured team of Raven colleauges set to work to help Reigate based charity, Loveworks. They worked on the local allotments, preparing the ground ready for vegetables to be planted. The vegetables that are grown will be made available to people through local foodbanks.
Painting at Court Lodge garages
Raven took on its own DIY SOS challenge at Court Lodge, where a team gave the garages a make-over. The Raven team enjoyed the afternoon working in the community and were really pleased to get compliments from local residents on their painting skills!
Fish & chips and a spot of bingo at Douglas House
Another team of Raven volunteers tested out their bingo lingo, as they entertained residents at Douglas House with a few games of bingo and a fish & chip supper. The residents really enjoyed spending the afternoon with new people – there was a lot of fun and laughter.
Once a year all Raven colleagues join together to carry out community projects to support schemes and groups in our communities. Because of the restrictions during lockdowns, this was the first time since 2019 that we’ve been able to do it – but we’re already geared up and looking forward to next year’s activities. If your community has a project you’d like our teams to come out and support next autumn – let us know. You can email your suggestions to raven@ravenht.org.uk
