Energy prices are rising and although it’s getting warmer there’s still scope to bring energy bills down.
Say no to standby
You may have heard this before but don’t underestimate how much can be saved by turning off items in standby mode, such as TVs, microwaves and Sky boxes, saving an estimated £50 each year. This isn’t surprising, when appliances in standby use on average 10% of their fully operational energy. This is because they still need electricity to power clocks, display screens, LEDs and to be ready to spring into action when you need them. Did you also know that mobile phones and laptops continue to use electricity once fully charged? So always unplug them once 100% is reached.
Efficient cooking
If you have a microwave, heating and cooking your food can be cheaper than using a conventional oven. Microwave ovens can cook food more quickly, so they are in use for less time. They also have less space to heat than a conventional oven or hob that can end up inefficiently heating the space around it. Check that food is heated all the way through and remember to switch off afterwards to save more money.
